RUBE FOSTER. ‘The Father of Black Baseball’ Born September, 17, 1879 in Texas. Few men dominate a sport as both player and leader; Rube Foster did them all. He rose from pitching stardom, including a 44-game winning streak in 1902, to evolve into a visionary manager and pioneering executive. In 1920, he founded THE Negro National League, earning his moniker as ‘the father of Black baseball.’ His Chicago American Giants set the standard for the daring and disciplined style of play the Negro Leagues became known for, and his leadership opened doors for generations of players and executives. In 1930, Rube passed away too early, never seeing the full fruition of his efforts in the Negro Leagues and the sport to come. Follow & Support the Foster Family Legacy: www.FostersLegacy.com "This graphic baseball card series re-imagines Negro League legends on the classic Topps designs of the 60s, 70s, and 80s; born from my love of collecting vintage cards and a sixth-grade Black History Month report on the Homestead Grays from my hometown of Steel Valley, PA. As a kid searching flea markets, I always hoped to find Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell or Satchel Paige on those iconic cards, but they were never there. This project is my way of honoring their legacy and imagining the cards that should have existed." Aaron Kleiber. Creator, Actor, Comedian. *Sticker, checklist & foil card in every pack!
